Investigators institute new case on torture in Rostov prison hospital

The investigation into a new case on torture in the Rostov prison hospital, which employees were sentenced to imprisonment, is being conducted against unidentified persons and concerns the events of 2018-2020.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in Rostov-on-Don, a court sentenced Alexander Lyakh, the former deputy head of the FSIN (Federal Penitentiary Service) tuberculosis hospital, to seven years and six months of imprisonment, finding him guilty of organizing torture of patients. Daria Pozdnyakova, the head of the psychiatric department, was sentenced to six years, and psychiatrist Anastasia Potorochina – to five years of imprisonment. The convicts insisted that they were not guilty and requested the court to cancel the sentence, but the Rostov Regional Court upheld the verdict.

In November 2020, a criminal case was instituted after the death of a convict in the Rostov tuberculosis hospital of the Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN). Sixty-two victims testified against medical officers and Alexander Lyakh.

Investigators have instituted a new criminal case on torture in the prison hospital: they are studying materials from January 1, 2018 to January 8, 2020, the “161.ru” portal reports.

According to the investigators’ version, prisoners were tied to their beds for a long time and were given injections, the “Lenta.ru” portal reports.
