Nikolai Kaklyugin succeeds in seeking investigation into complaint about torture in Rostov prison hospital
Investigators have begun checking the complaints of doctor Nikolai Kaklyugin about the torture he was subjected to in the Rostov tuberculosis hospital of the Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN), Nikolai Kaklyugin himself reports today.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the Krasnodar Territorial Court replaced with corrective labour the unserved part of the sentence of doctor Nikolai Kaklyugin. On August 4, Nikolai Kaklyugin left a penal colony and announced that he had decided to seek the annulment of the guilty verdict in the case on drug possession.
In November 2019, in Rostov-on-Don, a court sentenced Nikolai Kaklyugin to four years of imprisonment in a common-security penal colony, finding him guilty of drug possession. Relatives of the doctor believe that the drugs were planted on him and that the criminal case was instituted as revenge for the Nikolai Kaklyugin’s struggle with the methods of treating drug addicts in rehabilitation centres.
The first department for the investigation of particularly important cases of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) in the Rostov Region launched an investigation into the complaint filed by Nikolai Kaklyugin, who complained about illegal placement in the psychiatric department of the Interregional Prison Hospital No. 19, said Nikolai Kaklyugin himself. He was notified about the start of the investigation by an investigator on August 31.
According to the convict, in the hospital, doctors tried to apply unlawful methods of treatment to him.
