In France, activists protest against extradition of Chechen refugees

Participants of the protest action spoke out in defence of Muslim Tsintsaev and Selima Khadisova.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in June, Muslim Tsintsaev was detained in France and is being kept in prison there. On November 18, the Chechen diaspora held rallies in his defence in Vienna and Brussels. Earlier, in October, a rally in support of Selima Khadisova was held in Austria. The woman was detained in Bosnia under an extradition order issued by Interpol on charges of participating in an illegal armed formation (IAF). According to the Chechen diaspora’s information, Selima Khadisova fled domestic violence and was put on the wanted list in Russia at the insistence of her husband’s relatives.

Activists from the Chechen diaspora held a rally in Paris against the extradition of Muslim Tsintsaev and Selima Khadisova to Russia. The protesters demanded to provide the detainees with international protection.

The Association “Union of Chechens of France” spoke out against “the policies of some European countries towards Chechens fleeing persecution by the regime in the Russian Federation.”

“We once again appeal to the authorities of France: if Muslim Tsintsaev committed a crime in France, he should be punished under the French law, and not extradited to Russia for cruel reprisals, where the European Court of Human Rights has banned the deportation of Chechens because of cruel and inhuman treatment of them,” emphasizes the appeal posted on the “Tergam.info” website, reporting “about the life of Chechens in Europe and around the world.”

In February, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in Strasbourg refused to cancel the decision of the French authorities to extradite a 55-year-old native of Chechnya to Russia. The man himself insists that he is threatened with torture in his homeland.
