Condition of journalist Kiviryan wounded in Armenia remains grave

The state of health of Argishti Kiviryan is very grave, but his life is out of danger. This was reported to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Armenika Kiviryan, sister of Argishti, coordinator of the Internet edition "Armenia Today", who was attacked today in the morning.

Human rights activist Vardan Arutyunyan, a member of the committee "In Defence of Political Prisoners", said in his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he treats the attempt on the life of Argishti Kiviryan as another manifestation of the terror that dominates the country for many years.

The joint statement of the Committee "In Defence of Peace", Yerevan Press Club, "Asparez" Journalists' Club, Public Organization "Femida" and others states: "Settling problems by means of violence has already become a serious public threat, while state bodies do nothing serious to constrain these phenomena. A vivid confirmation is in the fact that none of those who attacked journalists has ever faced justice. We condemn this new act of violence and demand from law enforcement bodies to solve the crime as quick as possible and make those guilty responsible."

Let us remind you that on April 30 at 4 a.m. Moscow time unidentified persons attacked Argishti Kiviryan, a lawyer and coordinator of an Internet edition. The victim in grave condition was hospitalized to the "Erebuni" Medical Centre.

In the opinion of Argishti's wife, the attempt has to do with his professional work. It is necessary to note that the portal named "Armenia TODAY" is notable for its critical and objective way of presenting information. Argishti's wife - Lusine Saakyan - is a well-known Armenian lawyer, currently defending a number of oppositional figures-defendants in the cases related to the events on March 1.
