Agaev: public and political situation in Azerbaijan is depressively stable

Today, a little more that five months prior to the regular presidential election in Azerbaijan, the social and political situation in the country remains depressively stable. There are all the attributes of unconditional domination of the existing power and absence in the society of any worthy opposition, Azerbaijani political scientist Rasim Agaev asserts.

In his opinion, the uniqueness of the political situation in Azerbaijan lies in the fact that, provided so many essential unresolved problems, including the Karabakh conflict and total corruption, the existing authorities are absolutely dominating, even without any special force methods to suppress the opposition.

In the opinion of the political scientist, the situation is so because either the society has exhausted itself or there is no worthy leader capable to lead the people. "It looks like the state of affairs will last for rather long," Rasim Agaev told in his interview to the "Day.Az".

In these conditions, as Mr Agaev said, "one should not be an oracle" to predict that Ilham Aliev, the incumbent president will be a confident winner at the presidential election in October.
