ECtHR awards compensations to members of Yangulbaev family

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has ordered Russian authorities to pay compensations to Zarema Musaeva, Saidi Yangulbaev, her husband and a former Russian federal judge, and their daughter Aliya Yangulbaeva. The ECtHR has found that Russian authorities had violated the ban on torture against them, as well as violated their right to life, fair trial, freedom and personal immunity, Abubakar Yangulbaev, a lawyer and one of Zarema's sons, has informed in his Telegram channel entitled "The Son of The Judge".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 27, a court session in Grozny, at which the issue of Musaeva's conditional early relief (CER) was supposed to be considered, was disrupted due to the fact that she was not brought to the court.

The ECtHR's website says that Musaeva had claimed that her abduction by law enforcers was life-threatening and that she was subjected to inhuman and degrading treatment by policemen.

Saidi Yangulbaev, as well as Aliya Yangulbaeva, their common daughter with Zarema Musaeva, have complained in their lawsuit that on January 20, 2022, they were exposed to cruel treatment by law enforcers. The father and daughter also noted that they had experienced mental suffering due to their inability to find out the fate of Zarema Musaeva in the period from January 21 to February 3, 2022. They indicated that their numerous complaints to authorities had yielded no results.

The ECtHR has ruled that Russian authorities must pay Zarema Musaeva EUR 52,000; and EUR 6500 to Saidi Yangulbaev and Aliya Yangulbaeva each.
