In Rostov-on-Don, court refuses compensation to relative of perished military man
In Rostov-on-Don, the Southern District Military Court refused to recover four million roubles in compensation from the Russian Ministry of Defence in favour of a female relative of a military man who was shot dead by his colleague from a submachine gun in the special military operation zone in Ukraine.
Military man Pavel Chemodanov fired from his colleague’s submachine gun at a house in which another Russian military man stayed. The latter died from the wounds he got.
The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Pavel Chemodanov to three years of imprisonment. The defence filed an appeal against the verdict, and the court commuted the punishment, reducing the sentence by a month, the “Kavkaz.Realii”* reported.
A female relative of the perished military man filed a lawsuit against the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) for compensation for moral damage. The woman claimed that Pavel Chemodanov killed her relative while performing military duties. Officials from the MoD explained that Pavel Chemodanov took his colleague’s submachine gun and fired from it without his commander’s order, the Southern District Military Court reports on its official website.
The “Caucasian Knot” has also reported that earlier, courts had denied compensation to participants of the special military operation (SMO) and their families in other regions of Southern Russia and Northern Caucasus. So, the court refused to award compensation to Nuradil Bagautdinov, a person with disabilities from Dagestan, for being mobilized without a medical examination.
