Kadyrov names number of Chechen residents recruited for military service

Since the start of the special military operation (SMO), more than 9000 residents of Chechnya have been employed in military service, Ramzan Kadyrov has reported.

"In total, since the start of the SMO, we have employed over 9000 residents of the republic for military service," the head of Chechnya has written in his Telegram channel.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 24, Kadyrov announced that barracks were being equipped in Gudermes for a new battalion of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) named after Sheikh Mansur. On October 26, he announced that a battalion of the "Rosgvardiya" (Russian National Guard) named after the national Chechen hero Baisangur Benoevsky would be formed in Chechnya, which would include 300 fighters.

After the start of the SMO in Ukraine, Chechen authorities announced the formation of a number of new structures. Thus, on June 26, 2023, Kadyrov announced that four MoD's battalions would be formed in Chechnya: the "North-Akhmat", "South-Akhmat", "West-Akhmat" and "East-Akhmat", which would comprise of "exclusively Chechen guys."

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Kadyrov had repeatedly called on republic's residents to go to the SMO. Also in December 2022, he claimed that all the SMO participants from Chechnya had gone there voluntarily. However, human rights defenders and residents of Chechnya reported cases of coercion to participate in the SMO.
