In Armenia, deputy Sukiasyan is ready to quit the underground
Khachatur Sukiasyan, a deputy of the National Assembly of Armenia, who was announced into search last March under charges of organizing mass disorders on March 1, 2008, could not exclude his exit out of the underground, where he remained for 16 months.
In his statement disseminated today, the deputy sees no problems with his quitting the underground. "I have no problems to appear at law enforcement bodies, since I committed no crime," he has stated. "Moreover, by first presenting charges to me and my comrades, and by announcing amnesty shortly later, the authorities, eventually, have confirmed that all this time they had been engaged in our political persecution."
Making comments on a possibility of the deputy's voluntary surrender, Vaagn Arutyunyan, head of the Special Investigatory Group, said: "If Sukiasyan comes to law enforcement bodies, he will surely be arrested; however, whether he will stay arrested or not, it depends in the investigatory body. It's me who will decide on his freedom restriction measure. Voluntary surrender does not exclude all the grounds for arrest."
