In Armenia, oppositionist quits underground and surrenders to authorities
On July 1, Nikol Pashinyan, an activist of the opposition and the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Armenian Time", got out of his underground status, where he was for 15 months. He appeared at the State Office of Public Prosecutor and stated his voluntary surrender.
While in the Office, Nikol Pashinyan told the journalists who rallied there that he, most likely, will be arrested and then convicted, possibly, to a long term.
"I'm ready to self-sacrifice. I want to be a beacon in prison, a symbol of freedom of every citizen of Armenia. And until I'm in custody, every citizen of the Republic of Armenia should know that the country has problems with the law and freedom," Mr Pashinyan has stated.
He is now kept at the police station of the community "Centre".
