Contract soldier from North Ossetia sentenced to six years of imprisonment for leaving his unit
The Southern District Military Court has approved a verdict against Manuchekhr Beknazarov, a contract soldier from North Ossetia, who was sentenced to six years of imprisonment. The man injured himself and then left his place of military service for more than two months.
“Manuchekhr Beknazarov hit himself on the head with the butt of an axe because he did not want to go to the special military operation (SMO), which is why he was sentenced to six years of imprisonment. It was found that the man stayed at a temporary deployment point in the combat zone. There he hit himself with an axe. As a result, the man got a tear-contused wound and several hematomas. The soldier needed medical assistance,” the “Krylya TV Osetia” (Wings of TV Ossetia) publication reports.
On December 4, 2023, after inflicting the injury on himself, Manuchekhr Beknazarov did not show up for his military unit and was absent until February 6, staying with his family.
In an appeal lodged against the verdict, the defence requested the court to mitigate the sentence, taking into account that Manuchekhr Beknazarov admitted his guilt and repented, the fact that the man had two minor children to support, and his participation in the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. However, the court refused to mitigate the sentence.
The “Caucasian Knot” has also reported that in Vladikavkaz, a military court sentenced Marat Khabalov to 5.5 years of imprisonment for a two-month absence from his military unit.
