KBR military serviceman convicted of non-appearance for duty

A court in Nalchik has sentenced Anzor Khashev to five years of freedom deprivation for failing to appear for duty at the Military Prosecutor's Office (MPO).

After the announcement of mobilization in Russia, the tightening of legislation has led to harsher sentences for absence from a military unit, or for desertion, human rights defenders have stated.

The press service of the Nalchik Garrison Military Court has informed that on February 13, 2024, Khashev "failed to show up for duty at the MPO in Nalchik at the appointed time without any good reason."

He evaded his service until April 13, when he was detained. "In court, Khashev fully admitted his guilt, <...> realized the illegality of his act, told the truth about it and expressed regret for what he had done," the press service has reported.

On December 12, 2023, the Maykop Military Court, having sentenced the mobilized person, Vladimir Litenkov, to five years of freedom deprivation for leaving his unit without permission in June 2023, emphasized that "partial mobilization had been announced in the Russian Federation, which was not over at the time Litenkov committed his offence."

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
