SCO countries condemn Russia's recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia

The countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) find it a must for Russia to observe the principles of territorial integrity of Georgia. However, these countries have approved as a whole Russia's peacekeeping efforts in South Ossetia, but noted that they are concerned with the latest events in the region.

As to the events in South Ossetia proper, the SCO countries have supported Russia's role in promoting peace. However, as the statement runs, they mean first of all the Medvedev-Sarkozy plan.

"The SCO member-states welcome the approval on August 12 in Moscow of the six principles of settling the conflict in South Ossetia and support the Russia's active role in promoting peace and cooperation in the region," the statement emphasizes.

China and the countries of Central Asia have continently treated latest Russia's actions. China has called to continuation of dialogue and consultations. In the latest weeks, Uzbekistan has denied certain Russia's economic proposals and made its choice in favour of China. The main issue is that everybody has problems with separatists, and nobody wants to have problems by supporting Moscow, the "Echo Moskvy" Radio notes.
