HRC "Memorial" representative to head the Human Rights Council under the Mayoralty of Grozny

Natalia Estemirova, employee of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", has become the chair of the newly-created Public Council for assisting in ensuring human and citizens' rights and freedoms under the administration of the city of Grozny.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it by an employee of the city administration. As he said, the respective decision was adopted during the meeting of the Mayor of Grozny Muslim Khuchiev with the leaders and representatives of the HRC "Memorial", which took place on February 22 in Grozny. In her telephone conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, Natalia Estemirova has confirmed the fact of her appointment to the post of the Chair of the Human Rights Council under the administration of Grozny.

The City Public Council for assisting in ensuring human and citizens' rights and freedoms was founded under the administration of the Chechen capital on February 13. The primary aim put forwards before the Public Council for assisting in ensuring human and citizens' rights and freedoms is to enforce public control over observance of citizens' rights by officials, organizations and citizens, and promotion to realization in the territory of Grozny of citizens' constitutional rights and freedoms. Until recently, this Human Rights Council was headed by the Mayor of city of Grozny Muslim Khuchiev.
