Azerbaijan: court refuses to release editor-in-chief of the "Azadlyg" newspaper

Today, the Yasamal District Court of the capital of Azerbaijan has refused to change the freedom restriction measure - the arrest - to Ganimat Zakhidov, editor-in-chief of the "Azadlyg" newspaper. It has happened at the preparatory session on Zakhidov's case on hooliganism.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that the start of the trial was appointed on January 8 next year.

It is remarkable that the change of the freedom restriction measure to Ganimat Zakhidov was asked not only by his advocate, but also by the defence of the claimant - Vyusal Gasanov, who lodged the complaint against the editor. However, the state prosecutor has spoken against releasing the defendant. After some contemplation, the court has rejected the petitions of the advocates.
