European Court: Russia to pay 66,000 euros for executing old persons in Chechnya

The European Court for Human Rights (ECtHR) has recognized the guilt of the Russian authorities of murdering three residents of Chechnya, having passed today a decision on the case "Tangieva versus Russia". In the opinion of the Strasbourg judges, 70-year-old residents of Chechnya Abdul-Vagap Tangiev, Ismail and Khirzhan Gadaborshevs were shot dead in January 2000 by federal militaries in their house in the city of Grozny.

The Russian authorities shall pay 60,000 euros out of the above sum to the claimant Zainap Tangieva as indemnification of the non-material damage caused to her by the murder of her mother, father and uncle. 2900 euros and 2627 pounds sterling (3676 euros) will go to pay for the work of representatives.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learnt about it from Maria Shpikalova, coordinator of the joint programme "Defence of Human Rights with Use of International Mechanisms" of the Human Rights Centre "Memorial" and the European Centre for Defence of Human Rights (London), which carried out legal support of the claimant Zainap Tangieva.
