Okruashvili can be accused of treason in Georgia

Today, Irakliy Okruashvili, ex-Minister of Defence of Georgia, was arrested on charges of extortion, money-laundering, excess of powers, as well as service negligence.

The motive of the arrest is thought to be in the compromising statements that had been made by Mr Okruashvili on the eve of the presentation to be made by Mikhail Saakashvili, President of Georgia, at the UN Session, which could play into the hands of Russia, Saakashvili's planned scarification object in New York for supporting the authorities of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

The Georgian masses media are asserting that Okruashvili can be charged of treason, in particular, of disclosure of state secrets related to conflict regions of Georgia, the "Interfax" reports.

Thus, Mr Okruashvili has publicly stated that Tbilisi had devised a plan to capture the city of Tskhinval, the capital of South Ossetia:

"It was not meant to start a war or a military campaign, but to undertake a minor special operation and get Tskhinval back without great losses."

According to the RIA "Novosti," the "Rustavi-2" TV Company has reported about today's clash near the office of the opposition Movement "For United Georgia" between the police and supporters of the arrested Irakliy Okruashvili.

According to the information of the "Gazeta.Ru," the TV Channel has reported that more than 10 persons were detained when trying to block the traffic in the Atoneli Street in the centre of Tbilisi, where the office of the Movement is located. Despite the detentions, several hundreds have rallied near the office.
