Evkurov promised to relatives of Ingushetian prisoners to take the case under his personal control

President of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Evkurov has met relatives of the 12 defendants in the case about the attack on Ingushetia in 2004, who are kept in custody for the fifth year already, and, according to the relatives, are exposed to torture. The President plans to take the case under his special supervision.

"At 10:00 a.m. we were received at the President's Administration," Louisa Archakova, wife of one of the defendants, said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "The meeting was also attended by Yuri Turygin, Public Prosecutor, and Ruslan Meiriev, head of our Ministry of Internal Affairs."

Ms Archakova said that after listening to the relatives, President Evkurov promised to solve, in the near future, the issue of appointing the next court session on the case as soon as possible.

Also, Mr Evkurov promised to appoint a council of physicians to examine one of the defendants - Murat Esmurziev - who is in very grave condition. According to his relatives, it is a result of the torture he had suffered. "Now, he has liver cirrhosis, his kidneys are beaten off, and he has problems with the intestine and stomach," said Ms Archakova.

According to her version, at the meeting with the President, the relatives did not raise the issue of torture, applied to the defendants in the case.
