In South Ossetia, issuance of Russian passports suspended

Issuance of Russian passports to residents of South Ossetia has been temporarily suspended. This was stated by Alan Pliev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic.

"In view of recognition of the Republic of South Ossetia by the Russian Federation, now other legislative provisions should get into play as applied to a foreign state. In this context, granting citizenship of the Russian Federation to each category of citizens is considered separately," said Mr Pliev.

Meanwhile, as the "Interfax" reports, residents of South Ossetia continue to submit documents for receiving citizenship of the Russian Federation to the Consulate of the Russian Federation in South Ossetia.

Rena Kozaeva, representative of the Russian Consulate, has reported that now the Consulate receives documents from residents of South Ossetia only for exchange of expired Russian passports, as the GZT.ru writes.
