Actions in memory of Anna Politkovskaya held in Russia and abroad

Russia and a number of foreign countries held actions in memory of Anna Politkovskaya. Thousands of people have paid tribute to the assassinated journalist of "Novaya Gazeta".

In Moscow, the memorial rally took place in the Novopushkinskiy mini-park, as scheduled. Several hundreds of people came; they demanded a prompt opening of Anna Politkovskaya's murder.

In St-Petersburg, about 100 persons came to commemorate Anna Politkovskaya. They laid flowers to her portrait. In spite of the fact that city authorities had refused to coordinate the event, militiamen did not interfere and watched the rally from aside, the Internet edition "Fontanka.Ru" writes.

In Voronezh, the organizers of the action in Anna Politkovskaya's memory made a sort of a composition from photos of perished journalists and flags of democratic movements on a flower bed near the "Proletarian" movie theatre.

In Ekaterinburg, at the monument to Tatischev and Degenin, human rights activists of the "Memorial" Centre held a picket in memory of the killed journalist. The "Echo Moskvy" Radio reports that people were coming to light a candle and lay flowers to Anna Politkovskaya's portrait.

In Omsk, in the city centre, in the square at the Musical Theatre, a picket was organized by activists of three political forces - the United Civil Front, National-Democratic Union of Russia and "Freedom" Party. Posters with photos of Anna Politkovskaya and Yuri Schekochikhin had motto: "Bring murderers-corruptionists to responsibility!"

In Barnaul, on October 7, the day of Anna Politkovskaya's assassination, participants of the Altay School of Public Policy, installed her portrait, laid flowers and lit candles near the memorial boulder in the Freedom Square, the place, where they plan to erect a monument to victims of political repressions, the "Novaya Gazeta" reports.

In Georgia, the action in Politkovskaya's memory was organized on October 7 at the building of Russian Embassy in Tbilisi. The participants lit candles and commemorated the lost journalist by a minute of silence. According to Levan Gakheladze, Chairman of the Board of Guardians of the Public Television, "the Georgian society, by having come to the memorial action, has demonstrated professional and human support," reports the "News-Georgia".

In the capital of Ukraine, rare activists unfolded a banner with Politkovskaya's photo in Kiev's central square and bagged subscriptions with a demand to accelerate the investigation of the murder, the web resource videonews.com.ua reports.

A rally in Politkovskaya's memory was held in Finland near Russia's Embassy in Helsinki. People lit candles in Anna Politkovskaya's memory also pronounced mourning speeches.
