Chavez: Venezuela is in solidarity with Russia in recognizing Abkhazia's and South Ossetia's independence

On August 31, President of Venezuela Hugo Chavez declared that his country completely supported Russia's decision to recognize Abkhazia's and South Ossetia's independence. He also named President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili "a US puppet."

"Georgia unleashed aggression against South Ossetia. Russia took a clear stand. We would do the same should anyone attack us," President of Venezuela said in Caracas. "Russia has recognized South Ossetia's and Abkhazia's independence. We support Russia. Russia was right."

"Russia has recognized Abkhazia's and South Ossetia's independence, to what she has a legitimate right because she was attacked," said Chavez according to the ITAR-TASS.

The TV Channel "Vesti-24" did not specify whether Venezuela was planning to officially recognize the sovereignty of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Let us note here that Venezuela became the second country after Belarus, which has supported Moscow's decision to recognize South Ossetia's and Abkhazia's independence.
