Georgian party in power wins 120 out of 150 seats in Parliament

By the outcomes of the elections, the Georgian party in power named the United National Movement has won 120 seats in the new Parliament out of the total number of 150.

Zurab Kachkachishvili, press speaker of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Georgia, has reported by the outcomes of vote tabulation as of 1:00 p.m. Moscow time that "by the proportional system the party in power has got 49 mandates, the United Opposition - 14 mandates, the Christian Democratic Movement and the Labour Party - 6 mandates each."

Today, the CEC of Georgia has made public the complete preliminary results of the May 21 elections, according to which the party in power has won 59.48 percent of the voters. According to the latest data of the parallel tabulation, the United National Movement has gathered 59.2 percent of the votes.

Mr Kachkachishvili has stated, as quoted by the IA "News-Georgia" that under the majority system the party in power has won 71 mandates, while the candidates from the United Opposition and the Republican Party will have two mandates each.

The new Parliament of Georgia will have 150 MPs. Half of them were elected by the proportional system, and half - by the majority one.
