Foreigners to investigate disorders in Armenia

The authorities of Armenia agree to admit the participation of international experts in the investigation of disorders on March 1-2 in Yerevan. This was stated today by the General Public Prosecutor of Armenia at his meeting with Peter Semnebi, Special EU's Representative in South Caucasus.

According to Agvan Ovsepyan, General Public Prosecutor of the Republic, he had also offered the managers of the OSCE and UN Offices in Yerevan to attract experts of other countries to holding forensic-medical and ballistic examinations, and examination of video clips.

The General Prosecutor's Office is ready to create all the necessary operating conditions for participation of foreign experts in particular examinations," Mr Ovsepyan has emphasized.

In his turn, Peter Semnebi, while noting the importance of cancellation of the state of emergency on the established deadline, has emphasized the necessity to start a political dialogue, and also to reveal the reasons and motives, which had caused disorders on March 1, which will allow taking preventive steps for the future. This was reported by the REGNUM Agency.

Apart from meetings with the authorities of Armenia, Peter Semnebi had a meeting with the leader of the opposition Levon Ter-Petrosyan. During the conversation, the parties discussed the situation in Armenia and the ways to normalize it, the Agency "News-Armenia" reports.

The participants at the meeting were Serge Smessov, Ambassador of France to Armenia, Raul de Luzenberger, head of the delegation of the European Commission, and Andrei Didenko, Mr Semnebi's political adviser.
