Edelev: special operations in Dagestan and Ingushetia can continue till March

Special actions conducted by militia in Dagestan and Ingushetia can go on till March.

This was announced today by Arkadiy Edelev, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs. He has added that several illegal armed formations are currently acting in the territory of Ingushetia.

At the same time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) is promising to ensure safety of the forthcoming presidential election on March 2. The law enforcement bodies shall stop any antisocial manifestations, the Deputy Minister has assured as quoted by the "Echo Moskvy" Radio.

We remind you that the counterterrorist operation in the Untsukulskiy District of Dagestan started on December 16, 2007, when about 1500 militiamen and soldiers blocked the village of Gimry. The cordoned zone included the Chirkata-Gimry tunnel through which the road goes to six mountain districts of Dagestan.
