Blogger Vadim Kharchenko* arrested for two months
A court in Gelendjik has placed Vadim Kharchenko*, a blogger, accused of slander, in custody until February 4, 2025.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 5, the court released Vadim Kharchenko* from custody; he was accused under several criminal articles, after which he was detained on suspicion of slander.
Kharchenko* himself treats his criminal prosecution as revenge for criticizing corrupt officials.
On December 6, a judge of the Gelendjik City Court ruled to place Kharchenko* in custody, whom the same court released the day before, on December 5. The judge stated that Kharchenko* was accused of slander against Yaroslav Krasnoschokov, an advocate. The slander was in the fact that Kharchenko* had accused Krasnoschokov of bribing an official on November 21, 2022.
Kharchenko* and his defence objected to the arrest and assured the court that the blogger would not hide if placed under house arrest. However, the judge concluded that Kharchenko* "had no illnesses that prevent his custody."
