Dagestani activist Ulker Gashimova convicted for calls for terrorism and extremism
The Rostov-on-Don Military Court has found Ulker Gashimova, an activist from Derbent, guilty of calls for terrorism and extremism and sentenced her to 4.5 years and six months in a penal colony. This was reported by the project "Support of political prisoners. Memorial" with reference to her advocate.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 5, 2023, it became known that law enforcers had detained Ulker Gashimova, 23, at a Moscow airport while trying to fly out of Russia. Her bridegroom said that the girl planned to ask for political asylum in the Netherlands. After two arrests near Moscow, Gashimova was sent to Dagestan; and since then she has been kept at the Makhachkala SIZO (pre-trial prison).
On April 16, 2024, her case reached the court, but in July it became known that the trial was delayed due to a judge replacement. On April 28, Gashimova complained about pressure from the investigator.
