Law enforcers sentenced for beating Timur Derbichev and bribe-taking

Idris Fargiev, a policeman, has been sentenced to five years in penal colony within the case of beating Timur Derbichev in the city of Magas (the capital of Ingushetia). Two other policemen were sentenced for bribe-taking for refusing to initiate a criminal case against Derbichev on charges of drug possession, to which he was forced to confess.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in August 2023, the court sentenced Amiran Merzhoev, a former law enforcer to four years of conditional imprisonment (probation) within this case. Last December, the appellate court toughened the punishment, sentencing him to two years in colony. On August 29, 2024, the Magas District Court sentenced another law enforcer, Sulumbek Yandyrkhanov, to 4.5 years of freedom deprivation, finding him guilty of beating a detainee.

In Kabardino-Balkaria, Idris Fargiev was convicted within this case. According to a source, he was sentenced to five years in jail.

Also, two policemen, Temirlan Evloev and Khamzat Kotiev, were convicted of bribe-taking by prior conspiracy as a group of people and received eight and nine years in jail, respectively. They took money from Derbichev's relatives for not initiating a criminal case against him for drug possession, in which the man was forced to confess.
