Contract soldier from Makhachkala given lenient sentence for beating doctor
The court has fined Renat Devirov, a contract serviceman from Makhachkala, for beating a hospital employee, treating his participation in the special military operation (SMO) as a mitigating circumstance.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that courts in the republics of Northern Caucasus have repeatedly handed down lenient sentences to militaries, treating their participation in the SMO in Ukraine as a mitigating circumstance. In particular, on October 15, 2023, the Military Court in Makhachkala sentenced the serviceman Musa Musaev to seven years probation, finding him guilty within a case of illegal arms dealing.
In September 2023, during a conflict, Renat Devirov punched a hospital female employee in the head at least 10 times with his fists. Doctors diagnosed her with a brain concussion, as stated in the website of the Southern District Military Court.
The Makhachkala Garrison Military Court has found Devirov guilty of causing minor bodily harm and fined him by 15,000 roubles. He appealed against the verdict and stated that the victim could have used her ties to obtain a trauma certificate, since she works at a hospital. The Southern District Military Court upheld the verdict and treated Devirov's participation in the SMO as a mitigating circumstance.
