Stavropol resident demands to punish law enforcers for torturing his son

Law enforcers have detained Eldar Kyulbyakov, a resident of the village of Suvorovskaya, and tortured him with electric shock, demanding that he write a confession. According to his father, they also demanded from Eldar to testify against the head of one of the police departments.

On May 31, law enforcers came to search the residence of Eldar Kyulbyakov, an entrepreneur from Suvorovskaya, Stavropol Territory, his father, Alexander Mustafaev, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. As it later turned out, law enforcers had taken Eldar from the hotel.

At the same time, masked law enforcers with submachine guns broke into Eldar's home. According to Mustafaev, the search frightened the children.

"They didn't let me make a call to my advocate ... They asked about drugs and weapons," Mustafaev said.

The investigator wrote that Eldar may have been involved in the theft of some gold. It turned out that he was tortured at the police station; they demanded from him to incriminate himself. "They tortured him with electric current, put a bag on his head; he was suffocating," Mustafaev said.

According to the father, in order to stop the torture, his son said that he would write a confession, while they demanded from him "to invent" his guilt himself. Besides, law enforcers demanded from Eldar some information on the head of the criminal investigation division of the Predgorny District.

The Leninsky District Court of Stavropol ha ruled to place Kyulbyakov in custody for two months on suspicion of a large-scale theft committed by an organized group.

Mustafaev is confident that the accusation is groundless. "Our whole village knows that my son is a friendly person; he is a believer; he goes to church, what kind of theft could there be?" the father has stated.

Human rights defenders from the "Team against Torture" (TaT)* got involved in the case.

*The "Team against Torture" (TaT, formerly the "Committee against Torture" – CaT) was created by the lawyers who had earlier worked for the CaT, which was included into the register of the NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.

  • Religion experts explain motives for militants’ attacks on synagogue and temple in Dagestan
