Stavropol Navalny's supporter wins case at ECtHR

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has found a violation of the rights of Artyom Gavrilov, a Stavropol resident, who was fined for supporting Alexei Navalny.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Artyom Gavrilov, an activist, was detained on April 21, 2021, during a march in support of Alexei Navalny held in Stavropol. Analysts noted then that in the Stavropol Territory, protest activities are suppressed in every possible way.

On that day in Stavropol, protesters decided not to hold a rally because of the crowd of policemen. Mikhail Shevchenko, a farmer, went out for a solo picket in the town of Ipatovo under the slogan: "Thou shalt not kill". About 200 people gathered at the rally, the "Blocknot. Stavropol" outlet has reported.

The ECtHR has awarded compensation to Artyom Gavrilov in the amount of EUR 4000. The Court has found that law enforcers had violated Articles 5 (right to liberty and personal security) and 6 (right to a fair trial) of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
