Activist Marina Melikhova released from SIZO

Activist Marina Melikhova, who was sentenced for discrediting the Russian Armed Forces, was released from a SIZO (pre-trial prison) on June 1, the “OVD-Info”* reports.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Marina Melikhova was supposed to be released on May 31, as stated advocate Maria Spasibukhova. On that day, the sentence expired, because a day in custody is counted as 1.5 days of serving the sentence, the advocate has explained. However, on June 1, the advocate reported that Marina Melikhova was left in the SIZO, although the term of her imprisonment had expired.

In December 2023, a court sentenced Marina Melikhova, a resident of Krasnodar, to one and a half years of imprisonment, finding her guilty in a criminal case on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces. Marina Melikhova is being kept in the SIZO in Armavir, waiting for consideration of the appeal against the verdict.

Let us remind you that earlier, Marina Melikhova had been convicted of public calls for extremist activities and served more than two years of imprisonment, being released in the summer of 2022.

On April 3, the police drew up a protocol against Marina Melikhova on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces. The reason was an activist’s video, in which Marina Melikhova declared herself to be a pacifist.
