ICRF reports detention of three suspects of insulting believers' feelings in Stavropol Territory
Three residents of the town of Novoaleksandrovsk have been detained for publicly burning the New Testament down; they are suspected of insulting believers' feelings and hooliganism, investigators have reported.
"On May 2, in a house yard, the suspects, acting out of hooligan motives and motivated by religious hatred, burned the book "New Testament" down. They recorded their actions on a video, which they posted in a messenger, which publicly insulted believers' feelings," the Branch for the Stavropol Territory of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has reported in its Telegram channel. The suspects have been detained.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 27, a court in Grozny sentenced Nikita Zhuravel to 3.5 years in penal colony, finding him guilty of violating the right to religion and of hooliganism.
On May 20, 2023, law enforcers detained Zhuravel. He said that he had recorded a video of burning the Koran down at the direction of the Ukrainian special services and received 10,000 roubles for that.
