After shootout in Stary Achkhoi, Mufti of Chechnya calls on locals to keep eye on their families

After a shootout that occurred in the village of Stary Achkhoi, Salakh Mezhiev, the Mufti of Chechnya, has actualized the principle of collective responsibility, reminding republic's residents of the need to look after their families.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 14, in the above village located in the Achkhoi-Martan District of Chechnya, three unknown persons shelled a policeman. They were shot dead by return fire, and one policeman was wounded. The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has added that two members of the grouping that had planned attacks on law enforcers were also detained.

Mezhiev has noted that it is Muslims' duty "to protect their families from evil, to monitor them so that they learn correct Islam," the "Chechnya Today" News Agency has reported.

Earlier, the principle of collective responsibility was reminded by Kadyrov. If an offender against public safety or law enforcers is hiding, one of his relatives should be punished, he has stated, explaining this by Chechen traditions.

The armed incident in the Achkhoi-Martan District was the first in 11 months after an attack on a police post in Gudermes occurred on March 29, 2023, as a result of which two men, Zelim and Ruslan Elkhadjiev, were shot dead by law enforcers.
