At Nikita Zhuravel's trial, court completes questioning suffered party

At a court session in Grozny, the last three of the 13 imams recognized as the suffered party in the case of the burning of the Koran by Nikita Zhuravel, a Volgograd resident, were interrogated. One of the Imams has stated that Zhuravel's act caused him moral harm.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 12, the Imams from Chechnya, who had been declared to be the suffered party in Zhuravel's case, stated that the burning of the Koran insulted them and all Muslims. One of them complained that watching a video of Nikita's act caused his blood pressure to spike.

Zhuravel is accused of violating the right to the freedom of conscience and religion, and of hooliganism. On October 13, in court, he apologized to Muslims for his action, but admitted guilt only in the very fact of burning the Koran, saying that he had no motive for gross violation of public order.

Today, at the Visaitovsky District Court of Grozny, the Imams of Grozny mosques, acting as the suffered party, were interrogated. One of them, Beslan Visitov, the Imam of the mosque located in the Sheikh-Mansur District, has called to punish the defendant "to the fullest extent of the law," the "Chechnya Today" News Agency has reported.

Sulimpasha Misaev, the Imam of the mosque in the Baisangur District, has stated that Zhuravel personally caused moral harm to him.
