In Kabardino-Balkaria, warder suspected of beating a prisoner
The chief of the security department of a penal colony in Kabardino-Balkaria is suspected of beating a prisoner after a conflict.
In the Chegem District, a criminal case has been instituted against a penitentiary officer suspected of exceeding his authority, the Investigating Department for Kabardino-Balkaria of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reports.
On October 9, during a conflict with a convict, the chief of the security department of the penal colony repeatedly struck him with hands and feet, including on the head, and the convict got bruises and abrasions, the ICRF’s Department for Kabardino-Balkaria reports in its Telegram channel.
The “Caucasian Knot” has also reported that the Nalchik City Court obliged three convicted police officers to pay 150,000 and 300,000 roubles, respectively, to Alexander Knyazev and Valery Levdik, who complained about torture. The victims do not agree on the amounts of compensation.
On August 30, 2022, in Nalchik, the court sentenced three Nalchik police officers – Azamat Akkaev, Beisultan Kertov, and Timur Ketov – to three years of conditional sentence in the case on torture of Alexander Knyazev and Valery Levdik. At the same time, the judge reclassified the actions of the police officers, who were facing up to 10 years of imprisonment, to a more lenient part of the criminal article.
