Rights defenders achieve inquiry into the beating of North-Ossetian native by law enforcers

Investigators have begun examining allegations of beating by law enforcers in Moscow of Tamerlan Marzoev, a native of North Ossetia. He was hospitalized with fractures and bruises.

The incident occurred on October 14, when Tamerlan Marzoev and his wife were returning from their friends. According to Marzoev, a police car blocked their way; and two agents got out and demanded to show documents.

"One of them asked me where I was from. I replied that I live in Moscow and that I am a native of North Ossetia. The policeman said: "Why have you come here in large numbers?" the human rights organization "Team against Torture" (TaT)* has quoted Tamerlan as saying in its Telegram channel.

According to Marzoev, because of the talk about nationality, his wife began arguing with the policemen. Tamerlan told them that his wife was pregnant and asked them to stop conflicting and stood between them, blocking his wife. Then, one of the policemen hit him in the jaw, causing Marzoev to fall down and hit his head.

Tamerlan and his wife were taken to the police station, where, according to Marzoev, they continued insult them because of their nationality, and then they were taken to a study. "An operative agent asked me what I was using; then, he told me to strip naked and sit down three times. I complied with his demand," the native of North Ossetia is quoted as saying.

Later, Marzoev was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery, the "Msk1.ru" outlet reports. According to Marzoev, he has not recovered from the surgery yet and cannot go to work.

*The "Team against Torture" (TaT, formerly the "Committee against Torture" – CaT) was created by the lawyers who had earlier worked for the CaT, which was included into the register of the NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.
