Rights defenders demand authorities' reaction to threats to Magomed Alamov
Law enforcement bodies must respond to death threats against Magomed Alamov and ensure the safety of his family, activists of 13 human rights organizations have stated in their appeal to authorities.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that relatives of Marina Yandieva, 28, a resident of Ingushetia, who had ran away from home due to domestic violence, are threatening to kill Magomed Alamov, a human rights defender and lawyer, and accusing him of organizing Marina's escape. Alamov was not aware of the situation, but only gave her a lift, the "Team against Torture" (TaT)* asserts. Human rights defenders explained that Alamov is with his family in Chechnya, but the threat to his life remains. The TaT* head has sent appeals to Ingush authorities and law enforcement bodies, but there was no response so far.
The appeals have noted that "it is almost impossible to work in Northern Caucasus while remaining safe." "Lawyers, journalists and advocates are constantly attacked and threatened. We believe that the state is obliged to protect its citizens," the TaT* has quoted the appeals in its Telegram channel.
*The "Team against Torture" (TaT, formerly the "Committee against Torture" – CaT) was created by the lawyers who had earlier worked for the CaT, which was included into the register of the NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.
