Comment in chat of opposition channel results in fine imposed on resident of Chechnya

The court has fined Adam Madaev, a resident of Chechnya, for his comment left in the chat of the "1Adat"* Telegram channel, which is in opposition to the republic's authorities.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July 2021, the Zavodskoi District Court of Grozny treated a number of publications in the "1Adat"* Telegram channel as extremist, and also recognized the movement's Internet resources as prohibited. In May 2022, the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya recognized the movement as an extremist organization and banned its activities in Russia.

As follows from the resolution posted on the website of the Gudermes City Court, Adam Madaev, a resident of Chechnya, left comments in the chat that the police treated as extremist and leading to "interethnic and religious hatred."

*In July 2021, the Zavodskoi District Court of Grozny treated a number of posts placed in the "1Adat" Telegram channel as extremist and also found the "1Adat" Movement's Internet resources as prohibited; and in May 2022, the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya recognized the "1Adat" Movement itself as an extremist organization and banned its activities in the territory of Russia.
