Chechen Zara Murtazalieva removed from list of terrorists

Zara Murtazalieva, a native of Chechnya, who has served 8.5 years in a Mordovian colony on charges of terrorism, has been removed from the "Rosfinmonitoring" (Russian Federal Financial Monitoring Service) list of terrorists and extremists.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2017, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) refused to satisfy Zara Murtazalieva's complaint about the violation in Russia of her right to a fair trial and defence in court. The case was reviewed by the Grand Chamber, the ECtHR's appellate court, which, however, also considered the trial fair.

On January 17, 2005, the Moscow City Court found Zara Murtazalieva guilty of preparing a terror act in Moscow and sentenced her to nine years in prison. The Russia's Supreme Court reduced her sentence to 8.5 years. In 2008, the court denied Murtazalieva's request for conditional early relief (CER) because she refused to plead guilty. The convict was released on September 3, 2012, and after her release she lives in France.

Murtazalieva has been on the above "Rosfinmonitoring" list since June 2011, the "Colta" outlet has noted.
