Activist Berezikov’s defender leaves Russia after searches
Advocate Irina Gak has left Russia after the death of her client Anatoly Berezikov in a special detention centre in Rostov-on-Don and searches in her house. This is reported by the human rights project “OVD-Info”*. Irina Gak “ran away from the investigation” to Georgia, a source from the law enforcement bodies said.
On June 14, Anatoly Berezikov died in the special detention centre, where he was serving his third arrest after participating in a pacifist action. However, when Irina Gak visited him several days before, then, according to her, he looked healthy. Earlier, the advocate noticed traces of a stun gun on Anatoly Berezikov’s skin. “He complained to me that he was threatened, that he was afraid that he would be killed,” the advocate said.
A law enforcer expressed the opinion that Irina Gak “ran away from the investigation.” After the Anatoly Berezikov’s death, investigators began to check his advocate for involvement in the spread of fakes, the portal “1rnd.ru” reports.
Let us remind you that on June 22, searches were also conducted at an apartment of activist Tatiana Sporysheva in Rostov-on-Don in connection with an investigation under the article on incitement to extremism. Her computer and mobile phone were confiscated.
