Court upholds sentence of Dagestani resident in case on terrorism
A court of cassation has upheld the sentence of Elnar Amirbekov, who was sentenced to 17 years of imprisonment on the charge of terrorism and preparation of an attack on a road-and-patrol police (known as DPS) checkpoint in Dagestan. The court found unfounded the arguments of the defence about the falsification of evidence.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on May 25, 2022, the court sentenced Elnar Amirbekov to 17 years of imprisonment, recognizing him a member of a terrorist community and an illegal armed formation (IAF), as well as guilty of preparing an attack on a DPS checkpoint.
In a complaint against the verdict, the defence of Elnar Amirbekov claimed the falsification of his criminal case and the use of inadmissible evidence. The convict also claimed that he had been tortured by law enforcers, but the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) refused to institute criminal cases against investigators, the “Kavkaz.Realii”*.
