Resident of Nalchik accused of plotting terror act despite his complaint of torture

A case against Nalchik residents Ibragim Beituganov and Dalkhat Akhkobekov, accused of plotting a terror act in a local department of the FSB, has been submitted to court. Ibragim Beituganov complained that he confessed under torture, his advocate reported.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in October 2021, Ibragim Beituganov, a 20-year-old resident of Nalchik, became a suspect in a case on plotting a terror act at the local department of the FSB.

According to the court ruling, Ibragim Beituganov and another suspect were plotting a terror act. The case was instituted after elements for explosives had been found in an abandoned house in the village of Nizhny Chegem. “The main argument is the confession. Investigators also cut off the hair from the suspect’s beard and let him hold a glass of water. This is a typical scheme to find traces on the right items,” advocate Narine Airapetyan said.

According to the advocate, the complaint about torture filed by Ibragim Beituganov remained not investigated.

Ismail, a brother of Ibragim Beituganov, called the criminal case “an example of a total absence of authority” of the law enforcement bodies. According to him, the case file includes eleven hairs from his brother’s beard which are allegedly connected with the explosive device and which could be taken during the months of the Ibragim’s stay in a SIZO (pre-trial prison).
