Moscow court would not restore "Memorial"* in register of legal entities

The Gagarinsky Court of Moscow has refused to satisfy the claim for the restoration of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial"* in the state register of legal entities for the period of liquidation of the Centre. The exclusion from the register has deprived the HRC of the opportunity to pay off the debts to service providers and state bodies.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 9, 2022, a court in Moscow upheld the decision to liquidate the HRC "Memorial"*, adopted on December 29, 2021, at the lawsuit of the prosecutor's office. On May 18, already after the liquidation of the HRC, it was excluded from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities. This happened before the completion of the liquidation process of the Centre and created difficulties for the HRC "Memorial"* in paying off its debts.

The "Memorial"* became one of the Laureates of the Nobel Peace Prize. The decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize was made with the account of the long-term work of both "Memorials"* (the HRC and the "International Memorial") for the benefit of peace and respect for human rights, the prize gives a chance for the continuation of the human rights and historical activities of the "Memorials"*, human rights defenders have pointed out.
