Social media users distrust statement of Dagestani leader about soonest end of mobilization

Sergey Melikov, the leader of Dagestan, has announced that the partial mobilization will be completed in republic in the near future. Local residents note on Instagram* that the mobilization ends with the decision of the President of Russia, not the leader of the region.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on September 21, Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the partial mobilization. After it began, social media users reproached Sergey Melikov for the lack of any coherent support programme. Journalists argued about the impact of assistance to the families of those mobilized on the protest moods in the republic.

After the announcement of the partial mobilization, large-scale protests took place in Makhachkala on September 25 and 26, which ended in mass detentions. By October 8, the number of those convicted after the protests had reached 148.

Some Instagram users express their scepticism concerning Sergey Melikov’s announcement, according to which the partial mobilization in Dagestan will be completed in the near future.

“What does it mean ‘soon’? In a year or a year and a half?” user salahuddin271266 asked.

“It would be better if they say that [the special military operation] will end once and for ever,” user dzhanborieva wrote.

“The heads of regions may say whatever they want, but the mobilization stops only by presidential decree,” user mikka1990 emphasized.

*On March 21, the Tverskoi Court of Moscow banned the activities in Russia of the Meta Company, owning Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, in connection with extremist activities.
