Activists resume disobedience actions in Yerevan

Armenian oppositionists have held a protest march in Yerevan near the residence of the country's president, where the latter is meeting his Lithuanian colleague. Activists have called on the European Union (EU) to pay attention to human rights violations in Armenia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since April 25, the Armenian opposition has been holding everyday protests in Yerevan demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan. On May 19, during a protest in Yerevan, demonstrators clashed with law enforcers, after which activists curtailed their protests.

Today, supporters of the protest movement have held a march in Yerevan to the residence of the country's president, Vaagn Khachatryan, where he had a meeting with Gitanas Nauseda, his Lithuanian counterpart.

Nikol Pashinyan has no mandate to negotiate with foreign leaders on behalf of the Armenian people, one of the oppositionists has stated on air of the "Yerkir.am".

"We have gathered here to tell Europeans that they are being deceived, that there is no democracy in Armenia that Europe had dreamed of, but a dictatorship reigns; media are under pressure; and justice and the Constitution have been violated for four years," Gegam Manukyan, an MP from the "Armenia" bloc, was quoted by the "News.am" as stating.

Another activist has reproached Armenian authorities of using special groups for preparing provocations. "They are instructed to approach protesters, get into quarrels and provoke clashes," the "Aysor.am" quotes the activist as saying.
