Hague Court urges Russia to stop military operation in Ukraine

As an interim measure on the Ukraine's appeal in connection with the Russian military operation, the UN International Court of Justice has demanded from Russia to stop hostilities.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Russia's military operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Almost three million people have left Ukraine since the start thereof, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced its estimates on March 14.

The UN International Court of Justice has considered the Ukraine's application and called on Russia to stop the special operation. "Russia must immediately stop its military operation that it launched on February 24, 2022, in the territory of Ukraine," the Court has stated in its press release. "Both parties must refrain from any action that aggravates or prolongs the conflict, or hinders its resolution," the Court's press release posted on its website on March 16 has stated.

Although the Court's rulings are binding, it has no direct means to enforce them and, on rare occasions, countries have ignored them in the past, the Reuters has reported.
