Russia's MoD reports evacuation of 250,000 from Ukraine

In Ukraine, as a result of the conflict, more than 5 million people have already been forced to leave their homes, Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, said in an interview published on March 14 by the Corriere della Sera newspaper.

"Over 5 million people in Ukraine, that is some 10-15% of the entire population, have lost their homes, of which half have already left the country; but at this rate another 3 million will leave it in the coming days," Mr Grandi has stated.

According to his story, a third of Ukraine's 40 million population "are in a desperate situation because of war consequences." "What is most striking is how this situation has onset in just two weeks," Filippo Grandi has added, noting that "this migration crisis is the most serious" since the World War II.

Since the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, a total of 248,993 people have been evacuated into Russia, the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) informed on March 14. During the past 24 hours, about 7000 residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) crossed the Ukrainian-Russian border in the Rostov Region; and the total number of refugees from Donbass has exceeded 215,000, the Rostov Regional Border Directorate of the Russian FSB has reported.
