About 1500 Georgian citizens return to their homeland from Ukraine
Every day, residents of Georgia are being evacuated from the special military operation zone in Ukraine by buses through Poland, Romania, and Moldova. In Georgia, activists raise money, food, medicine, and clothes for residents of Ukraine.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 3, volunteers collected about 80 tons of clothes, food, and essentials for residents of Ukraine. On March 4, Georgian Ombudsperson Nino Lomdjariya called on the country’s authorities to accommodate orphans from Ukraine. Tbilisi and the regions of Georgia have established the centres where citizens bring humanitarian aid to residents of Ukraine.
Georgian citizens continue to return from Ukraine, the “Rustavi-2” TV Channel reports. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), as of March 10, up to 1500 citizens returned home from Ukraine.
“Our people are not rich, but many of them send money to Ukrainians,” journalist Sofia Zhgenti says.
In Tbilisi, many shops hang Ukrainian flags in the windows.
Let us remind you that Georgian citizens hold protest actions in support of Ukraine every day, and protestors also demand the resignation of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili for refusing to support sanctions against Russia.
