Saakashvili's supporters announce disobedience actions

On the 100th day in custody of Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili, the third president of Georgia, his supporters, while holding during a rally near the Rustavi Prison, announced the formation of disobedience groups and the start of anti-government rallies throughout the country.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that after his return from a hospital to the Rustavi prison in December 2021, Mikhail Saakashvili demanded to let independent doctors visit him and to ensure confidentiality of advocates’ visits to him. The former president of Georgia threatened to resort to extreme forms of protest if his demands were not met by January 6.

Saakashvili returned to Georgia in late September and was arrested on October 1, as he had been sentenced in absentia in Georgia to imprisonment within two criminal cases. After his arrest, he held a 50-day-long hunger strike, which he stopped after achieving a transfer from prison and the prison hospital to a military one.

On January 8, supporters of Mikhail Saakashvili held a rally near the Rustavi Prison, where Saakashvili is kept. They protested against restricting doctors' visits to the former president and his phone calls, the "Report" outlet has informed.

The action near the Rustavi Prison was timed to Saakashvili's 100 days of custody. It was organized by the recently created association of civic activists "Misha's Sector", the "News-Georgia" News Agency has reported today.

The protesters have announced the formation of "disobedience groups" and the start of anti-government rallies throughout the country, the "News-Georgia" reports.
