Turkish nationalists present Erdogan with map of "Turkic World" covering regions of Southern Russia
Devlet Bakhcheli, the leader of the Turkish parliamentary "Nationalist Movement" Party, has presented the President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with a map of the "Turkic World", which includes the regions of Southern Russia: the Kuban (Krasnodar Territory), Rostov Region, the North-Caucasian republics and the Crimea.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in February, 2021, the Turkish TGRT TV Channel posted a map forecasting the expansion of Ankara's sphere of influence in Southern Russia, which sparked criticism in the Russian State Duma. Turkey is unlikely to have much of an impact on Russia, Alexei Malashenko, an Orientalist, has pointed out.
Apart from the aforementioned, the map of the "Turkic World" includes Eastern Siberia, as well as Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the Balkans, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China, and some territories of Mongolia and Iran.
On October 26, after the opening of the Fuzuli International Airport attended by Erdogan, the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliev stated that the Zangezur Corridor "will unite the entire Turkic world."
Such Turkey's territorial ambitions are empty, said Fedot Tumusov, a State Duma MP from Yakutia, has stated.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that interests of Turkey and Russia overlapped in Nagorno-Karabakh. In particular, the Ministries of Defence (MoDs) of the two countries agreed to establish a joint centre in Azerbaijan to monitor the observance of the ceasefire in Karabakh.
